SPRING 2014 - HAUTE COUTURE AND NEW MAKEUP

This week the Haute Couture shows have been taking place in Paris.

In the gardens of the Museé Rodin, Raf Simons presented Dior's Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2014 collection.  The silhouette was deceptively simple but with movement, layering and embroidery resulting in delicate, feminine pieces.  Dark ink blue and white were predominant. The collection included an embroidered, dark ink blue wool "Bar" jacket with dark ink blue wool pants and a dress and a jumpsuit, both in embroidered. dark ink blue silk.  There were some exciting shoes - silver buckle and cube chainmail heels rimmed with tiny roses.

These Haute Couture Spring shows take place just as the Spring Ready-to-Wear and makeup collections begin to appear in the shops.  They are always like a wake-up call to me that Spring is on the way, even though it's still only chilly, gloomy January.

I start to think about Spring bulbs like hyacinths and daffodils and wonder if I can successfully grow lavender on my city window sill this summer.  I'm getting into the mood by indulging in my favourite English Lavender Bath and Shower Gel and Body Lotion, both from Neal's Yard English Lavender Organic Body Collection

This talk of lavender might sound a little old-fashioned but lavender and mauve shades are appearing in the new Spring makeup collections.

Chanel's new Spring makeup,

"Collection Notes de Printemps", is inspired by music and Spring and shades are red, pinks and purples

Lumières Facettes eyeshadow palette in Quadrille (537) includes a greyish lavender shade

Illusion d'ombre eyeshadow in Diapason (92) is a violet/plum/brown

Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in L'Adorée (45) is a grey mauve shade

Le Vernis Nail Colour Charivari (603) is a dark smokey mauve

I'm looking forward to seeing this collection soon on the Chanel  beauty counters.
