CHANEL "COLLECTION LIBRE" MAKEUP COLLECTION

CHANEL's "COLLECTION LIBRE", their latest makeup collection, is perfect for dark December and the festive season. The theme is opulent and golden with metallic textures and rich reds. The Lion, Coco Chanel's emblem and astrological sign, is a feature of the collection and is embossed on new luminous powders - LE LION DE CHANEL and 4 new limited edition iridescent shades of OMBRE PREMIÈRE.

LE LION DE CHANEL is a limited edition golden Face Highlighting Powder with a metallic sheen, to use on areas that catch the light.

OMBRE PREMIÈRE, Longwear Powder Eyeshadow comes in 4 new shades:

Electrum Lamé 905 (gold)
Vert Lamé 906 (green/gold)
Cuivre Lamé 907 (copper/gold)
Noir Lamé 908 (metallic black)

I bought Vert Lamé, an olive green with a gold shimmer and I really love the colour on me.  It comes in the little black CHANEL mirrored compact with a foam applicator and a small brush to blend it with.  As I usually find with CHANEL eyeshadows, it's easy to apply and long lasting.  For a more intensified look, CHANEL suggest mixing, matching and layering these new metallic shades.

CHANEL OMBRE PREMIÈRE Vert Lamé

There are also 2 new limited edition shades in ROUGE COCO GLOSS, CHANEL's shiny and moisturising lip gloss:

Liquid Bronze 808
Flaming Lips 812

I bought Flaming Lips, a beautiful metallic, shiny, glossy rich ruby red.  ROUGE COCO GLOSS is always one of my favourites, because I find it easy to apply and I like the moisturising and lightweight feel.  In this shade the texture is a little heavier than usual and the effect is more intense, but I find it perfect for this time of the year.

CHANEL ROUGE COCO GLOSS Flaming Lips

I must add that I love the new limited edition shade of LE VERNIS Longwear Nail Colour - Opulence 917 (metallic burgundy/copper/gold).

NEWS FROM CHANEL: Opulence and golden are definitely words that could apply to the recent CHANEL Métiers d'Art show in New York.  Inspired by Ancient Egypt, Karl Lagerfeld presented his ornate collection of clothes, jewellery and accessories in an Egyptian Temple inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Models wore black Cleopatra-style graphic eyeliner and the guest of honour, Pharrell Williams, appeared in a gold top with a Usekh neckline and gold trousers.

When I publish my next post, it will probably be 2019! In the meantime, a very MERRY CHRISTMAS to those who celebrate it and a HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON to all.

A SOFT GREEN AUTUMN JUMPER

Often, in Autumn, I buy something green - not bright green but soft green or dark forest green.  It will usually be a piece of knitwear or an eyeshadow.  Once again, I have bought
a green jumper but this time it is something different from the classic round neck or polo neck.

I found it at H&M in their Divided section.  Made in a soft Acrylic/Wool/Alpaca mix, it has a wide, ribbed v-neck at both the front and back, with the 'v' not so low at the back.

I love the neckline, which is ideal for this season's jewellery trends - either a single gold chain with a gold medallion pendant or layered little gold chain necklaces.  They don't have to be real gold and there is a good selection of these styles in the high street.  Actually, both H&M and Primark have really picked up on medallions! (I must mention my medallion earrings, which came from a Primark 6-pack of 'gold' earrings).

In my next post, coming soon - some more green and gold and some red too!

SAMPURE MINERALS CRUSHED MINERAL EYESHADOW

GIFTED: promotion

SAMPURE MINERALS Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow, winner of the "Natural Health" magazine award for Eyeshadow, was another lovely blogger's gift I received in my goody bag from the Allergy & Free From Show.

It comes in a nice little pot and looks like small granules (similar to my favourite instant coffee!). My sample was in Grape, a soft purple shade.

SAMPURE MINERALS Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow in Grape

SAMPURE suggest applying it with a finger or a brush. I found it easiest to pat it on to my eyelids with my finger and then blend it.  Initially, I used too much and when blended it spread so far that I looked panda-eyed! I realized that a little bit went a long way and tried again with a tiny amount.  This time I was successful and it looked really good, with a soft, smooth finish.  I found that it stayed on well too.

SAMPURE also suggest using the eyeshadow wet, to get a more intense colour or even to use it as an eyeliner.  The next day I was more ambitious and after applying the eyeshadow dry, I tried mixing a little with a damp brush and painting a line round my eyes.  I was very pleased with the result - a soft purple line in a deeper shade than the shadow.  I was delighted with Grape, which really suited me but there are 8 shades to choose from.

SAMPURE MINERALS Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow is made from natural ingredients and free from animal products, harsh chemicals or parabens. SAMPURE intend it for use by people who have sensitive skin or allergies but, as always, I would recommend checking the ingredients. It is also Halal, Vegan and Vegetarian Certified and Cruelty Free. Designed to meet so many needs, I think it is very reasonably priced at £9.50. As it happens, right now there is a SALE on SAMPURE's website and they are offering the eyeshadow at £4.75 (half price}!

For full details of this product, including ingredients and available colours, please go to SAMPURE's  website:

In my next post - a colour that I like at this time of the year.

ORGANIC SHOP Tropical Coconut & Shea Hair Mask - My Review

GIFTED, promotion.

As promised, I am now writing my review of ORGANIC SHOP Tropical Coconut & Shea Hair Mask, another gifted product from my Free From Show goody bag.

ORGANIC SHOP Tropical Coconut & Shea Hair Mask

ORGANIC SHOP Tropical Coconut & Shea Hair Mask is a moisturising hair mask made from ingredients of 98% natural origin and does not contain parabens or silicones.  It contains Organic Coconut ("nourishes strands, to leave hair lustrous and shiny"*) and Organic Shea ("boosts hydration to repair split ends and smooth frizz, leaving hair rejuvenated and revived"*).   I was interested in this product because sometimes after washing my hair it can be a bit unmanageable and  frizzy.

Following the directions on the tub, after shampooing my hair, I applied the mask to damp hair and massaged it in well.  I enjoyed the lovely scent of coconut and the texture of the mask felt rich and creamy.  The instructions suggested leaving it on for 2-3 minutes, or longer if a more intensive treatment was required.  I actually kept it on for 6 minutes before rinsing it off thoroughly.

After drying and styling my hair, I was delighted with the result!  My hair was smooth, shiny, manageable and it seemed to look thicker too.  ORGANIC SHOP Tropical Coconut & Shea Hair Mask certainly does what it claims to do (*see above claims).   I will most definitely be using this marvellous hair mask regularly in future.

Now the price.  This is quite amazing!!! At only £2.50 for a large 250ml tub, this is a really inexpensive way to give hair a first-class treatment.  The tub is going to last quite a while  too because I found that I only needed to use a small amount of the mask.

You can read all the details about it (including ingredients and delivery etc) on their website:

My next post will be a review of SAMPURE MINERALS Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow

BAIE BOTANIQUE ROSE RENEW REGENERATING SERUM ANTI-AGEING

GIFTED: promotion

You may have already seen my post, "MY VISIT TO THE 2018 ALLERGY & FREE FROM SHOW AT LONDON OLYMPIA".  (If you scroll down a few posts, it's still up on the blog).  I mentioned that I came home with a blogger's goody bag containing gifted products.  The three products that I was most interested in were BAIE BOTANIQUE Rose Renew Regenerating Serum Anti-Ageing, ORGANIC SHOP Tropical Coconut & Shea Hair Mask and SAMPURE MINERALS Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow.  I was looking forward to trying these "NATURAL HEALTH" magazine award-winning brands.

BAIE BOTANIQUE Rose Renew Regenerating Serum, ORGANIC SHOP Hair Mask, SAMPURE MINERALS Eyeshadow

Today I am writing about BAIE BOTANIQUE Rose Renew Regenerating Serum Anti-Ageing, which has been "formulated to aid in cell renewal and regeneration".

The ingredients, which are 98% naturally derived and 80% organic, include Rose Water, Rose Absolute, Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, Botanical Hyaluronic Acid, MSM, Kojic Acid, Glycolic Acid.  There are NO Parabens or synthetic colours or fragrances.  For full details on ingredients, please visit their website www.baiebotanique.com

For a couple of weeks now, I have been applying a small amount of BAIE BOTANIQUE Rose Renew Regenerating Serum to my face and neck before moisturiser, as suggested.  I have found in the past that with natural skincare products from luxury brands, using them can be a very pleasant, almost holistic experience because of their scent and texture.  This one is no exception.  The rose fragrance is beautiful and the serum has a lovely syrupy feel.

Does BAIE BOTANIQUE Rose Renew Regenerating Serum do what it claims to do?

Well, yes I find that it "softens" and "brightens" my skin and "enhances overall complexion" and because of this, it has the effect of "improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles".  I do think that It makes my face look healthier and gives it a glow.

It also claims to increase cell turnover and collagen production, to firm and restructure the skin and combat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  I would say that whilst I do not believe in miracles when it comes to wrinkles, some skin products can gradually have some tightening and firming effect on the skin if used regularly.  As I have only been using  BAIE BOTANIQUE Rose Renew Regenerating Serum for two weeks, I guess only time will tell.................

I would certainly recommend this lovely product and at £34 for 30ml, pricewise it compares favourably with other luxury brands of natural skincare.

I will very shortly be testing and reviewing ORGANIC SHOP Tropical Coconut & Shea Hair Mask and SAMPURE MINERALS Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow, so please keep posted.

AUTUMN - A NEW CARDIGAN & BRIGHT RED NAIL VARNISH

Now it really does feel like Autumn and when I saw this soft, warm, black cardigan in H&M, I thought it would be ideal to layer over other pieces in my wardrobe, including a silky slip dress.

I love the soft acrylic rib knit, V-neck, easy shape and dropped shoulders. There's a hole-knit pattern down the front too, as shown in the detail below.

It's time too to paint my nails a light, bright red.  I had used up my favourite, CHANEL LE VERNIS in Rouge Red (546), so I treated myself to a new bottle.

CHANEL LE VERNIS in ROUGE RED (546)

NEWS AHEAD to Spring! It might be Autumn but recently my favourite designers presented their Spring/Summer 2019 shows at Paris Fashion Week.

Karl Lagerfeld's collection for CHANEL was inspired by the beach and he turned the Grand Palais in Paris into "La Plage de Chanel".  Models walked barefoot on sand, holding their shoes, wearing straw hats and double visor caps. My favourites - wide shoulder jackets over cycling shorts.

The Eiffel Tower was the background for Anthony Vaccarello's collection for SAINT LAURENT. Here the models walked through water, bordered by illuminated palm trees.  There were elegant, evening style swimsuits that could have been worn to a party, sophisticated, Helmut Newton inspired little masculine-feminine tailored pieces and designs influenced by ideas in the Yves Saint Laurent archives.

Slimane is back!  Vaccarello, of course, took over in 2016 at SAINT LAURENT from the designer, Hedi Slimane.  Now Slimane is at CELINE. His first collection for CELINE took the theme of "Paris La Nuit" and featured the smoking jacket, fascinators and tiny, mini dresses.

BUT FOR NOW IT'S BACK TO AUTUMN (AND WINTER AHEAD!) and it's getting colder out!

CHEAP CHIC - AUTUMN ACCESSORIES FROM PRIMARK

When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping - or so they say.  It seems to me that if "tough" is anything to do with money, then the worst thing to do is to go out on a spending spree and work up a big debt on the credit card! Having said that, a little bout of retail therapy at PRIMARK won't break the bank.  I'm finding it to be a good place for attractive and fashionable little accessories at very low prices.

Undoubtedly, the season's "must-have" is leopard print (or any other animal print).  Personally, I  like to do this trend in small touches, i.e. accessories.  I found this lovely pack of 2 belts in leopard print and black croc print:

I would mention that these belts are designed to wear as waist or hip belts (it says so on the label) and come up rather long.  If you only intend to wear them round the waist, I would suggest buying a much smaller size than usual.

A new umbrella was on my shopping list and I fell for this one as soon as I saw it.  Again, it's in a leopard print, finished with a black satin, bow-trimmed strap:

As I already have a black/leopard bag, a leopard print bow ponytail band, and two pairs of little animal-printed earrings (leopard and zebra) from past seasons, I think that's enough for me!

Other items on my shopping list were a new beanie and a pair of gloves ready for the Autumn chill.  I bought a black beanie with a faux fur pompom and some pretty black gloves trimmed with a black velvet bow:

I went home delighted with my new accessories and the amazing thing was that the total cost of these lovely little pieces was only £11!

CHANEL OMBRE PREMIÈRE, LONGWEAR POWDER EYESHADOW IN POUDRE D'OR

Back in early April, I wrote about the CHANEL Autumn/Winter 2018/19 collection, presented in Paris during the fashion week in March.  I described the beauty look at the show, which was light, healthy, peachy but also golden and luminous.  I thought that it would be a perfect look for the late summer into early Autumn season and in my post, I featured CHANEL's new product, ROUGE COCO LIP BLUSH in Tender Rose (414), as worn by the models in the show.  You can read all about it in my post, "CHANEL ROUGE COCO LIP BLUSH", dated 3/4/18 - see link below:-

http://www.petite-panache.com/2018/04/chanel-rouge-coco-lip-blush.html

Now it's September and time to think about eye makeup for this look.  In the show, two CHANEL products were used:

  • LES BEIGES HEALTHY GLOW NATURAL EYESHADOW PALETTE in DEEP, a palette containing 5 shades in earthy and golden tones, which can be used as a base, highlighter or eyeshadow.
  • OMBRE PREMIÈRE LONGWEAR POWDER EYE SHADOW in Poudre D'Or (No 34), a metallic gold eyeshadow.
I decided to buy OMBRE PREMIÈRE in  Poudre D'Or (No 34) - as in the photograph below:-

It comes in a little, shiny black mirrored compact with a foam applicator to apply it with and a soft little brush for blending. It has a soft, powder texture and applies easily and blends well.  I personally will use a little lightly below the eyebrow, on the eyelids and even as a highlighter on the top of the cheeks, to add just a touch of golden glitter and shimmer.

I'm really looking forward to wearing this peach/golden look for early Autumn!

NEWS FROM CHANEL: LE MAT DE CHANEL, Fall-Winter 2018 Makeup Collection is on the Beauty counters.  Colourful and intense shades in a matte texture, this new collection will be very attractive for late Autumn/Winter and the party season.

MORE NEWS: A new CHANEL Makeup Collection for MEN is to be launched this Autumn!

LA ROCHE-POSAY TOLERIANE ULTRA Daily Moisturiser

In my last post, "My Visit to the 2018 Allergy & Free From Show at London Olympia", I wrote about Dr Justine Hextall's excellent talk and her advice on skincare for sensitive skin.  She stressed the need for a gentle skincare regime, using only a gentle cleanser and the importance of finding the right moisturiser.

I totally agree with Dr Hextall.  Personally, although I have never thought of my skin as being particularly sensitive, I have experienced problems in the past with either harsh skincare products (stinging, dryness etc) or irritating cosmetics (itchiness, stinging eye makeup).  Also, although my skin is not oily, I have found that over oily/rich skincare products have caused spots.  At the time, my thoughts were simply that the product or brand wasn't good or certainly it just wasn't good for me! I always use a gentle cleanser and I've bought the same moisturiser for years because I really do think it's the right one for me.

At the show, La Roche-Posay, who presented the talk, were promoting their TOLERIANE ULTRA Daily Moisturiser for sensitive skin and I came away with a couple of small sample tubes to try.

La Roche-Posay say that TOLERIANE ULTRA Daily Moisturiser is "clinically proven to provide instant relief and longlasting comfort for sensitive skin" and "help reduce redness in 30 minutes". It is enriched with glycerin and shea butter. I decided to use one little tube now and save the other one for the winter, as I sometimes experience "redness" in cold temperatures and biting winds.

When I applied TOLERIANE ULTRA Daily Moisturiser to my face, it had a clean fresh feel and spread on smoothly.  Although it felt very soft and moisturising, it wasn't oily or over rich and left my skin feeling soft, moisturised and comfortable. I was only able to get 3 applications out of the small tube but my opinion is that it is a very pleasing moisturiser.  I would think that longer-term use would be beneficial and certainly worth a try for anyone with sensitive and/or dry skin.

However, as always, I would recommend that if you suffer from known allergies or sensitivity to certain ingredients, you should always check that a product is suitable for you before use.

TOLERIANE ULTRA Daily Moisturiser is available at BOOTS, where they currently have a special offer on it - £13.12 reduced from the normal price of £17.50.

I will be updating this review in the winter, when I will try the moisturiser again to see how it copes with any redness.

Update is now on January 2019 post, "Cold Weather Chic".
http://www.petite-panache.com/2019/01/cold-weather-chic.html

The product mentioned in this post was Not Gifted. Small sample tubes were available at the La Roche-Posay stand for all visitors to take.

MY VISIT TO THE 2018 ALLERGY & FREE FROM SHOW AT LONDON OLYMPIA

GIFTED products from Promise, Genius and Natural Health Magazine: sponsored feature

On Saturday, I went to the ALLERGY & FREE FROM SHOW at  Olympia, the glass-domed exhibition hall in London.

The ALLERGY & FREE FROM SHOW also shared the hall with LOVE NATURAL LOVE YOU and the JUST V SHOW.   It was a wonderful event presenting food and drink, beauty and life-style products made from natural ingredients and/or free from certain things that people might wish to avoid.

My first stop was the BLOGGERS MEET-UP hosted by Robbyn Snow from the ALLERGY & FREE FROM SHOW and Vicki Leeland, from LOVE NATURAL LOVE YOU.   It was an opportunity to meet other bloggers and a few exhibitors who turned up with some samples of their products.  PROMISE GLUTEN FREE gave me a Super Seed Loaf (gluten free, low sugar, high fibre, wheat free, dairy free) and offered me a taster of their yummy Chocolate Chip Brioche Rolls. I also received a gluten free Baguette (frozen to bake in the oven) from GENIUS.  I have been enjoying eating both of these!  Then, Robbyn and Vicki gave us each a "NATURAL HEALTH" shopping bag, containing a copy of the August 2018 "NATURAL HEALTH MAGAZINE", the INTERNATIONAL BEAUTY AWARDS 2018 Supplement, a lovely selection of beauty and skincare products and a few food and drink samples.  As you can imagine, I will be trying out the beauty and skincare products during the summer, so keep posted for my reviews!

As always, the show offered a display of so many products - something for everyone I would say - but each year I usually focus on a theme. This time it was sensitive skin and suitable skincare.

I went to the Learning Theatre to listen to an excellent talk by Dr Justine Hextall, a Consultant Dermatologist, on "The Myths and Facts of Managing Sensitive & Allergy-Prone Skin".  The talk was presented by LA ROCHE-POSAY, known for skincare products designed for sensitive skin.  Dr Hextall explained the difference between skin that was just sensitive and irritated and conditions caused by actual allergies.  She emphasized the fact that the right skincare can reduce skin sensitivity and gave the following advice:
  • adopt a gentle skincare regime
  • avoid over-washing and over-scrubbing
  • avoid harsh cleansers, soaps and products containing alcohol
  • find the right moisturiser that suits your skin
  • products don't have to be expensive
  • use SPF 50 Sun Protection everyday
After the talk, I looked at the nearby LA ROCHE-POSAY stand, where they were promoting their TOLERIANE ULTRA, a daily moisturiser that they claim relieves sensitive skin and helps to reduce redness.  I took a couple of the small samples that were offered  to visitors and intend to test and review the moisturiser.

Their range of products also includes a 50+SPF sunscreen for sensitive skin, ANTHELIOS XL ULTRA-LIGHT and a variety of cleansers.  I thought that TOLERIANE DERMA-CLEANSER, cleanser & make-up removal fluid for intolerant skin, sounded interesting.  LA ROCHE-POSAY skincare products are easily available at BOOTS, where currently they have some special sale prices on this brand.  Normal prices for these products are within  £12-£20 - not the cheapest on the market, but not the most expensive!

WHITE AND GOLD SUMMER

It's the Summer Solstice today and officially the first day of summer.  Put it down to the warm weather here and perhaps that famous white Givenchy Wedding Dress, but I felt the need to buy something white to greet the season with.

This really pretty white Off-The-Shoulder Blouse, from H&M's Divided range, appealed to me immediately.  Made in a woven fabric with a lace panel down the front, it has short sleeves and a tasselled drawstring.

LINGERIE TIP:  For those of us who need some firm support under off-the-shoulder tops, H&M do some good strapless balconette style bras.  I bought a powder pink lace strapless bra (it came in a "2 pack" with a handy black one!). Under fine white materials, to avoid white patches showing through, I would recommend a skin-toned bra rather than a white one.

Another essential for me was a new pair of sandals.  OFFICE is one of my favourite places for finding shoes that are both stylish and comfortable.  These soft, gold leather, T-Bar, Footbed sandals are called "Sorbet".

No doubt, the gold shoes and boots featured in Karl Lagerfeld's CHANEL Autumn/Winter 2018/19 Collection inspired me to think about gold shoes.  I know that sandals aren't exactly an Autumnal style but I'm sure that I will wear them throughout the summer and on into those first warmer days of early Autumn.

Now, the sun is out and hot weather is forecast for the foreseeable future.

SECRETS

The "SECRET POSSESSIONS" Collection at Primark is a lovely collection of luxury lingerie and pyjamas in silky textured materials, trimmed with lace or embroidery. I fell for these black pyjamas as soon as I saw them!  Made in a polyester fabric with a silky feel, the short-sleeved jacket and matching shorts are both very prettily embroidered on opposite sides.

The label, "SECRET POSSESSIONS", makes me think of those little items that are personal, precious and treasured and kept carefully in the drawer wrapped in tissue!  Here are two more pieces that could fall into that category.

A SOFT, NON-WIRED BLACK LACE TRIANGLE BRA, from H&M:

Made with removable insert pads, it is ideal under clothes that look and feel better with a natural shaped bra, rather than a "structured" look.

BLACK SOPHIA LACE SHORTS from M&S:

For me, M&S is the place to go for knickers that feel soft, silky, luxurious and comfortable.  These beautiful lacy Shorts are from the Sophia Lace Collection of lingerie, which also includes bras, Brazilians and High Leg Knickers.

NOW HERE'S ANOTHER TYPE OF SECRET!

We've all known those mornings when the weather has suddenly turned warm and sunny and those black opaque tights just don't seem right.  Our legs are looking unattractively white and there just isn't time for the self-tanning operation.  Some of us are not confident anyway about wearing short skirts with bare legs.  To many the idea of wearing sheer natural or tan tights seems very retro and dates back to an era when a lady only went bare legged at the "seaside".  I would like to make a case for sheer tights because apart from adding colour, they also give coverage for small defects, firm up flabby bits and give legs a smooth, even finish.  It is important to get the shade and texture right.

In the photograph above:

  • Semi Shiny 20 denier tights in Tan from H&M.  These 20 denier tights give good coverage if needed and a smooth appearance, but 7 or 10 denier tights can be really undetectable and give a convincingly bare leg look.

  • Bare Cooling Ladder Resist Sheer Ankle Highs 7 Denier Appearance in Natural Tan from M&S Autograph.  What I really like about these socks is that they come up higher than most sheer ankle socks and so are ideal for wearing with jeans or leggings that sit just above the ankle bone.  Also, they have sheer toes.

DARK GLASSES were once associated with secrecy, mystery, "Film Noir" characters and Hollywood stars seeking anonymity. Now, not only have they become a key fashion accessory, we are also now more aware of the need to protect eyes from the sun.

Recently I have been wearing my aviators with rose gold lenses but this season I have opted for trendy, sleek, Cat Eye sunglasses from Urban Outfitters with dark tinted lenses and glossy black plastic frames.

It's very sunny out today!
