I love the changing seasons and the new fashions that they bring.

Although it's very cold and snowing too, the days are getting longer and brighter now and there's much more light.  During the darkness of winter, I didn't seem to notice defects so much, but somehow now those dark circles under my eyes and the little red blemish on my cheek have become more apparent.  The wintry weather has taken it's toll on my skin too!

Of course, I am using my tried and trusted skincare products - see my old post:

I am using my under eye cream and soothing cleanser designed for redness etc and these products certainly do help, but in the end there is still a definite need for a good concealer.

I find that the trouble with many concealers is that they look okay when applied but seem to melt away once I go out and about.  I wanted a concealer that would look good and last.  Having heard some good reports about COLLECTION concealers, I decided to buy one of their products, COLLECTION primed & ready Concealer Kit and give it a try.

The concealer kit is attractively presented in a very professional looking, neat black compact.

The compact contains two cream to powder concealers in different shades, a liquid concealer, a translucent setting powder and a double-ended brush.  There is even a little strip of mirror at the top of the lid inside, so it's ideal if quick touch-ups are needed when out.

The kit is intended for use after applying foundation, to  conceal dark under eye circles  and shadows and any other flaws.  The idea is to mix the cream and liquid concealers to produce the ideal shade for the skin tone, then blend using the brush and finish off with a dusting of the invisible setting powder.

I applied the concealers as above and I was very pleased with the results.  The coverage was good and I liked the soft, creamy texture of the concealers.  The effect was natural, without that chalky, grainy look that some concealers make, especially on the under eye area where the skin can be dry or lined.  While I was out, the concealers stayed on perfectly and really did prove to be long lasting.

I am delighted with my COLLECTION primed & ready Concealer Kit  and I must add that it was at a reasonable price that didn't break the bank!  COLLECTION offer a wide range of cosmetics at affordable prices and I definitely intend to try some more now.

Now it's February and cold.  Spring still seems quite a long way off, but not in the fashion and beauty world.

Recently, Karl Lagerfeld presented his CHANEL Spring/Summer 2018 Haute Couture collection in the Grand Palais in Paris.  Against a background scene resembling a French garden, he showed a very pretty and elegant collection.  There were tweed suits, often with matching booties, flowers embroidered on dresses and lots of pink  in shades from pale pastels to fuchsia and raspberry.

The beauty look echoed the collection.  The models wore sleek ponytails tied at the nape of the neck with flower fascinators on their heads and little tulle veils.  Makeup was pink-toned - rosy cheeks and deep pink glossy lips.

Meanwhile, the CHANEL Spring/Summer 2018 makeup collection is on the beauty counters. For NEAPOLIS: NEW CITY, Lucia Pica, CHANEL's creative makeup and colour designer, was inspired by her hometown Naples and the shades (greens, yellow, gold, red, pinks and black) are described by CHANEL as "luminous" and "volcanic".  I think this collection is also very pretty, vibrant and fresh - perfect for Spring!

First on my shopping list for the new season - a bright nail polish. CHANEL's Les Vernis Longue Tenue in Giallo Napoli 592, a luminous yellow, was perfect. There were 3 more lovely colours for nails in the collection:-
  • Nuvola Rosa 588, a very pretty pastel pink (on my wish list)
  • Arancio Vibrante 634, bright orange
  • Verde Pastello 590, mint

Next, I wanted a bright pink lip gloss and I chose Rouge Coco Gloss in Poppea 794, to get the beauty look from the Haute Couture show.  The other 3 new shades were:-
  • Parthenope 788 beige pink
  • Sibylla 786 a lovely peach pink
  • Aphrodite 792 blue
I was interested in Poudre À Lèvres, a lip balm and powder colour in a black lacquered compact.  The idea is to apply the balm with finger tips and then add the coloured powder either gently with fingers or with a brush in layers for a more intense look.  The coloured powder can also double as a blusher.  At the moment, there are 2 shades available:-
  • Rosso Pompeiano 410, pinky coral red
  • Rosso Parthenope 415 pinky red
Turning to eyeshadows, Les 9 Ombres Exclusive Creation, Édition No. 1 - Affresco is a palette of eye shadows in a variety of colours from the collection.

Also, there is a beautiful green/teal eye shadow in Ombre Première Longwear Cream Eye Shadow - Verderame 824.  That's definitely on my wish list!
